Job Purpose
The Rigid Driver Manager is responsible for managing driver training, compliance, coordination, and administrative support within a transport or fleet environment.
The role ensures that all drivers are:
- Properly trained
- Legally compliant
- Operationally ready
- Monitored for safety and performance standards
It also involves maintaining driver records, assisting with scheduling, and supporting fleet administration.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Training
- Conduct induction and orientation for drivers
- Train drivers on:
- Company policies
- Safety procedures
- Operational standards
- Provide ongoing refresher training
- Ensure drivers remain compliant with industry expectations
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate driver reconciliation and records
- Ensure all drivers comply with transport regulations
- Monitor vehicle and driver allocations
- Ensure PDPs are renewed at least 90 days before expiry
- Ensure cross-border drivers have valid:
- Passport
- Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Maintain spare driver availability for operational needs
- Ensure proper tagging and recording of driver wages and PDP tags
- Manage driver requests and issues via written communication to fleet control
- Coordinate scheduling of:
- Medicals
- License renewals
- Leave applications (including special events)
- Ensure vehicle inspections are completed during training periods
Compliance and Safety
- Conduct driver inspections and enforce safety standards
- Ensure adherence to transportation laws and regulations
- Support disciplinary processes in coordination with HR and management
- Promote safe driving practices across the fleet
Communication and Coordination
- Act as a link between:
- Drivers
- Fleet controllers
- Management
- Resolve driver concerns and operational issues professionally
- Ensure smooth daily fleet operations
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate driver records:
- Qualifications
- Safety history
- Training records
- Support documentation for audits and compliance
- Assist in reporting driver performance and compliance data
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Previous experience in transport or logistics (advantageous)
- Experience in driver coordination or training (advantageous)
- Valid Code 14 driver’s license (advantageous)
