JOB DESCRIPTION
The appointed security service provider will be responsible for providing professional guarding and protection services at Odendaalsrus SAPS. The purpose of the role is to ensure the safety and security of SAPS personnel, facilities, assets, and visitors through controlled access, monitoring, and physical security presence.
Security services will be rendered on a 24-hour basis (day and night shifts) under a structured rotation system, ensuring continuous protection of the premises.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The security service provider and deployed personnel will be responsible for the following:
1. Access Control
- Monitor and control entry and exit of all persons and vehicles
- Verify identification and maintain visitor logs
- Ensure only authorised personnel access restricted areas
2. Guarding Duties
- Provide armed security presence at designated posts
- Protect SAPS property, buildings, and equipment
- Prevent theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access
3. Patrol Duties
- Conduct routine patrols of the premises (day and night)
- Monitor vulnerable areas and report suspicious activity
- Ensure perimeter security is maintained
4. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain occurrence registers and incident reports
- Record all security-related activities
- Report breaches, incidents, or irregularities immediately
5. Key Control
- Manage and record issuance and return of keys
- Ensure secure storage of all keys
6. Communication
- Use approved radios and communication devices
- Maintain constant communication with supervisors and control room
7. Incident Management
- Respond to emergencies and security threats
- Assist in investigations of incidents or breaches
- Report incidents to SAPS management and supervisors
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Personnel Requirements
- Minimum Grade C PSIRA registration
- Valid firearm competency certificate (handgun)
- 2–3 years security experience (minimum)
- Physically and medically fit
2. Skills & Competencies
- Access control procedures
- Emergency response handling
- Basic first aid knowledge
- Incident reporting and documentation
- Crowd and site control
3. Supervisory Requirements
- Ability to manage security teams
- Conduct inspections and shift monitoring
- Prepare operational reports
- Ensure compliance with SOPs
4. Equipment Requirements
Security company must provide:
- Radios (programmed communication devices)
- Batons
- Handcuffs
- Firearms (where required)
- Occurrence registers & logbooks
5. Compliance Requirements
- PSIRA compliance (company + personnel)
- Occupational Health & Safety compliance
- Confidentiality and non-disclosure adherence
- Professional conduct at all times
SHIFT STRUCTURE
- Day Shift: 2 Security Officers (06h00 – 18h00)
- Night Shift: 4 Security Officers (18h00 – 06h00)
- Total: 6 officers per day
