Job Overview:
NCRS (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced and proactive Traffic Safety Officer to oversee and enforce road safety practices across construction and public road environments, particularly in projects related to infrastructure and solar PV development. This role is vital in ensuring safe traffic flow, accident prevention, and compliance with traffic laws while supporting road safety education and infrastructure planning.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Traffic Regulation & Enforcement

Enforce traffic rules on-site and on public roads connected to construction projects.

Monitor traffic flow, congestion points, and driving behaviour.

Analyse vehicle movement patterns and traffic signal operations.
2. Road Safety Planning & Audits
-
Conduct road safety audits and risk assessments, especially in high-risk or construction zones.

Identify accident trends and propose mitigation strategies.
-
Develop site-specific and community-based road safety programs.
3. Education & Awareness
-
Organize awareness campaigns, training, and workshops for drivers, pedestrians, and staff.

Promote safety gear use (seatbelts, helmets, high-visibility clothing).

Educate drivers on defensive driving and fatigue management.
4. Incident Response & Investigation
-
Investigate road incidents and accidents; compile detailed reports.

Coordinate emergency response with relevant services.

Develop emergency response protocols for major or hazardous incidents.
5. Infrastructure & Design Collaboration
-
Evaluate road layouts and intersections for safety improvements.
-
Collaborate with engineers on safer access routes and traffic design.
-
Install/maintain road signage, markings, and temporary control devices.
6. Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Development

Partner with law enforcement, schools, municipalities, and road authorities.

Liaise with traffic control centres for real-time updates.
-
Support policy development and contribute to best-practice sharing initiatives.
7. Environmental & Public Safety
-
Implement measures to limit vehicle-related noise and air pollution.

Conduct inspections on commercial and public transport vehicles.
-
Propose solutions for wildlife safety and road rage management.
8. Monitoring & Reporting

Enforce compliance with vehicle maintenance and safety standards.
-
Track performance of safety programs and initiatives.

Create and distribute road safety materials and reports.
Required Qualifications & Experience:

National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.

SACPCMP Registered as a Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO).

Minimum 5 years’ experience in traffic safety, with exposure to construction and/or solar PV environments.

Skills & Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of South African traffic laws and construction site logistics.
