Job Description
The Silo Manager is responsible for the profitable and efficient management of a grain storage facility. The role focuses on grain storage, handling, quality control, inventory management, infrastructure maintenance, financial administration, and customer service.
The successful candidate will ensure the safe storage and movement of grain while maintaining compliance with operational, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Grain Management and Quality Control
- Monitor grain flow continuously.
- Ensure grain quality and protection through fumigation processes.
- Monitor grain tube temperatures and report deviations.
- Measure grain tubes according to company policies and safety regulations.
- Maintain grain quality standards throughout storage periods.
Silo Operations
- Operate the silo according to company policies and regulations.
- Oversee the receipt, storage, and dispatch of grain.
- Ensure efficient silo operations and productivity.
- Maintain compliance with grain handling procedures.
Inventory Management
- Manage grain inventory levels.
- Ensure accurate stock control and reporting.
- Monitor grain movement and storage records.
- Maintain inventory accuracy.
Financial and Administrative Management
- Manage financial and administrative functions of the silo.
- Oversee operational costs and profitability.
- Complete required reports and documentation.
- Manage input trade-related duties.
Infrastructure Management
- Monitor and maintain silo infrastructure.
- Ensure equipment and facilities remain operational.
- Coordinate maintenance activities and repairs.
- Promote a safe working environment.
General Management
- Lead and supervise silo employees.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Drive operational and strategic objectives.

Customer Service

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
- Successful completion of the New Manager’s Programme (or relevant management training).
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ proven management experience within the grain or agricultural industry.
Technical Requirements
- Completion of appropriate grain grading courses.
- Completion of silo operating courses.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Sound knowledge of grain handling and storage operations.
