Role Overview
The SCADA Engineer will play a pivotal role in the commissioning and integration of SCADA systems for utility-scale solar PV projects. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial communication protocols, commissioning processes, and SCADA network design.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Integration
-
Lead or support commissioning of utility solar PV projects.
-
Ensure Eskom signalling compliance and alignment with national utility standards.

Assist in commissioning both primary and secondary plant devices (e.g. RTUs, HMIs).
SCADA & Network Design
-
Design physical and logical SCADA network architecture.
-
Develop signal and IP lists for SCADA integration.
-
Create network/logic drawings and signal schematics.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
-
Coordinate with vendors on monitoring, control, protection, and communication systems.

Provide input and support for SCADA pricing/BoQs on upcoming projects.
Testing & Documentation
-
Perform troubleshooting, testing, and system design reviews.

Create:

Functional testing procedures

Coding manuals for RTUs

Design checks and commissioning checklists
-
Technical documentation for various processes
-
Knowledge Sharing & Maintenance
-
Provide ongoing support and system maintenance.

Actively share knowledge within the engineering team.

Stay up to date on emerging technologies and protocols.

Minimum Requirements
-
Education:
-
BTech or BEng in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering

Experience:

At least 3 years in SCADA system design & commissioning

Strong knowledge of RTUs, HMIs, and communication protocols

Work Conditions:
-
Willingness to be onsite for extended periods (e.g. 4–5 months)

Ability to work under pressure and prioritize critical path commissioning items

Communication & Software:

Full proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Workspace
