Job Overview
Grain Field Chickens is seeking a Reach Truck Operator to safely and efficiently operate a power-driven reach truck for the loading, unloading, movement, stacking and retrieval of goods and pallets.
The successful candidate will support warehouse, production, storage and dispatch operations while ensuring that stock is handled accurately and safely in line with company procedures, health and safety requirements and production deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate reach trucks safely to move raw materials, finished goods and stock.
- Load, unload, stack and retrieve pallets from high-level racking systems.
- Replenish picking locations and stock as required.
- Ensure loads are secure, balanced and transported without damage.
- Receive, locate and store incoming goods accurately.
- Assist with picking, staging, loading, unloading, stock rotation and storage.
- Support stock control, cycle counts and inventory audits.
- Assist with repacking sales orders and loading orders.
- Verify stock quantities and report discrepancies.
- Apply FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation where applicable.
- Conduct daily pre-operation inspections and complete reach truck checklists.
- Report defects and maintenance requirements.
- Maintain clean and organised warehouse areas.
- Assist truck drivers with timely loading and unloading.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and warehouse operating standards.
- Wear the required PPE at all times.
- Complete relevant documentation accurately.
- Report accidents, near misses, hazards, damaged stock, shrinkage and unsafe conditions.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
- Valid Reach Truck Operator Licence/Certificate – R/T Code F5 AM (1600kg).
- 2–3 years’ reach truck operating experience, preferably in a warehouse, logistics or manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of warehouse operations and inventory movement.
- Ability to work in environments involving loud noise, extreme temperatures, dust and moving machinery.
- Physically fit and able to perform frequent lifting, bending and standing.
- Willingness to work overtime, shifts and weekends when required.

- Ability to read delivery notes, picking slips and stock documentation.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good time-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet production and dispatch deadlines.
