    Job Overview:

    The OSD Project Management Unit is seeking a qualified and registered Professional Architect to lead architectural activities on state-owned or leased buildings. The role involves coordinating professional teams, ensuring legal and safety compliance, providing expert architectural advice, and overseeing design quality and standards. The incumbent will also play a key role in mentoring candidate architects and managing architectural resources and budgets.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent (NQF Level 7)

    • Registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) as a Professional Architect

    • Valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities)

    • Strong competencies in project management, architectural design, legal compliance, and team leadership

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform architectural duties on state-owned or leased buildings, structures, or facilities

    • Coordinate and lead professional teams on architectural matters

    • Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and health regulations

    • Provide architectural advice and technical support for problem-solving and design evaluations

    • Develop and implement architectural policies, methods, and quality standards

    • Review architectural plans, drawings, and specifications prepared by designers and sub-professionals

    • Mentor and train candidate architects and related personnel to promote skills development and adherence to professional standards

    • Supervise architectural work and manage performance and development of staff

    • Manage office administration, resource planning, and budget control

    • Ensure compliance with procurement and human resource procedures

    • Conduct continuous professional development and research to stay current with architectural technologies

    • Liaise with professional councils and bodies on architectural matters

    • Support candidates in registering as professional architects with SACAP
