Job Overview
Momentum is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Advisor to join its Momentum Distribution Services (MDS) team in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will provide expert legal, financial planning, and technical support to financial advisers and clients across the individual and business markets.
The role focuses on estate planning, investments, retirement planning, fiduciary solutions, tax planning, business planning, and ensuring compliance with financial services legislation. Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory Services
- Provide expert legal and technical advice on corporate and commercial legal matters.
- Support business operations by ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practices.
- Advise internal and external stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters.
- Keep the business informed about legislative changes and their impact on operations.
Financial Planning Support
Provide legal and technical guidance relating to:
- Estate planning and fiduciary services.
- Business succession and business planning.
- Tax planning.
- Investment planning.
- Retirement planning.
- Offshore estate planning.
Support Financial Advisers
- Provide ongoing legal and technical support to financial advisers and planners.
- Identify adviser needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Assist advisers in growing and retaining their client portfolios.
- Deliver training on legal, fiduciary, and financial planning matters.
- Contribute to adviser development through knowledge sharing and coaching.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Deliver exceptional client service throughout every engagement.
- Ensure clients receive professional advice and effective after-sales support.
- Support business growth through excellent relationship management.
Compliance
- Ensure all FAIS compliance documentation is completed accurately.
- Prepare and maintain legal execution documents.
- Ensure compliance with industry legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Promote adherence to company policies and governance standards.
Knowledge Sharing
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc business publications.
- Share legal and technical expertise across the organisation.
- Support continuous learning within the adviser network.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or relevant Law Degree.
- RE5 Certification (FAIS compliant).
Preferred:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning.
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) qualification.
Experience
Candidates should have:
- At least 5 years’ experience in the financial services and commercial sector.
- 1–3 years’ experience as a Legal Advisor within the financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, investments, insurance, and fiduciary services.
