    Job Overview

    PH Attorneys is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Debt Collection Officer to join the Finance Department.
    The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing and executing debt recovery processes, ensuring compliance with legal and financial standards. This role requires strong communication skills, financial understanding, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional legal environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and oversee the full debt collection process, from follow-ups to payment arrangements.

    • Ensure all recovery activities comply with legal and financial regulations.

    • Negotiate payment plans and settlements with debtors where necessary.

    • Maintain and update accurate debtor records and financial data.

    • Prepare collection reports and performance summaries for management.

    • Liaise with clients, attorneys, and internal teams to resolve outstanding accounts.

    • Identify and escalate disputes or legal risks appropriately.

    • Contribute to continuous process improvement in collection procedures.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Diploma in Accounting or Finance.

    • Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in debt collection.

    • Experience in accounting or financial administration will be an advantage.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy.

    • Basic understanding of legal accounting principles.

    • Experience using AJS legal software is advantageous.

    Skills and Attributes

    • Fluent in Afrikaans, English, and one African language (Sotho, Xhosa, or Zulu).

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

    • Proactive, ethical, and adaptable with attention to detail.

    • Capable of handling confidential financial data responsibly.

    • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a dynamic legal setting.
