Job Overview
Sanlam Group is looking for a skilled Data Analyst to support its Bloemfontein/Agri operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and supporting business information through data collection, analysis, reporting and data management. The role will help management make informed business decisions by identifying trends, maintaining accurate data and developing useful business intelligence tools.
The position will work closely with underwriting, insurance support, policy and claims teams, distribution teams and programmers.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Support
- Develop and maintain internal data assets supporting pricing and modelling initiatives.
- Extract monthly assessor cost information.
- Build and maintain datasets.
- Support rate book uploads and test rate books on Guidewire.
- Maintain administration files, VDC tables, crops, districts, segmentation and loyalty information.
- Respond to data-related enquiries.
- Prepare management reports highlighting trends, patterns and predictions.
- Build and maintain dashboards to support faster and more effective decision-making.
Business Information & Data Management
- Assist in identifying and improving data integrity across policies and systems.
- Maintain and analyse data tables.
- Assist with transitioning tables to meet Guidewire requirements.
- Conduct regular data testing to ensure accurate reporting.
- Compile existing data tables and assist in developing improved datasets and business intelligence tools.
- Liaise with programmers to ensure datasets are accurate, usable and consistently available.
Insurance Support
- Assist with investigating policies and claims that do not align with established rules.
- Identify potential duplicate policies or records.
- Assist with verification of farm GPS points where incorrect locations require further investigation or surveying.
- Support policy and claims teams by identifying data irregularities through testing.
Statistical Reporting
- Maintain statistical tables to ensure consistent and accurate information.
- Compile weekly statistics, including:
- Weekly underwriting reports
- Claims reports
- Form statistics / ROA
- Use data from different sources, including Guidewire and AS400, to produce accurate reports.
- Ensure claims data is correctly linked to brokers, Area Managers and relevant crops.
Distribution Support
- Respond to internal and external data-related enquiries.
- Provide information regarding crop and rate availability in specific polygons.
- Manage client segmentation transfers and entity changes.
- Link farms and clients to the relevant Area Managers.
- Link Area Managers to regions.
- Promote a data-driven culture by training Area Managers on effective data usage and tools such as pivot tables.
- Assist Area Managers and brokers with Guidewire rating and underwriting issues.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A postgraduate degree in a numerical science, such as:
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Actuarial Science
- Data Science
- At least 3 years’ experience in an analytical role.
- Knowledge of and experience with QlikView and Qlik Sense reporting platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
