Role Overview
The Commissioning Engineer will lead the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities for renewable energy projects, specifically PV (Solar), Wind, and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems). This role bridges engineering, compliance, field operations, and client handover, requiring a mix of technical, analytical, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Execution
Plan and execute commissioning of electrical, mechanical, and control systems
Perform functional tests, inspections, and system performance validation
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during commissioning
Calibrate and configure instrumentation and control systems
Analyse test data and recommend corrective actions
Document deviations, punch lists, and commissioning outcomes
Compliance & Safety
Enforce strict safety and quality protocols
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (local & international)
Adhere to IEC, IEEE, ISO standards during commissioning
Documentation & Collaboration
Interpret project specs, technical drawings, and documentation
Work closely with project managers, construction, and engineering teams
Produce and maintain test reports, checklists, and handover documents
Training & Handover
Train operational and maintenance teams on system functionality
Support the transition from commissioning to operations
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
7+ years of commissioning experience in PV, Wind, or BESS
Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent) — advantageous
Proven background in construction engineering within energy/infrastructure
Familiar with SCADA, grid integration, and energy storage tech
Experience using commissioning software and digital tools
Skills & Competencies
Strong diagnostic and analytical abilities
Excellent documentation and reporting skills
Able to handle multiple priorities in a high-paced environment
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and permitting
Willingness to travel and work on-site
