Job Overview:
MSP Staffing Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Chief Safety Officer to join a top mining client in the Free State. The ideal candidate will play a strategic and operational role in leading health and safety initiatives, ensuring full compliance with mining safety legislation, and implementing effective risk management practices. This is a leadership opportunity suited for professionals with deep knowledge and experience in underground mining environments.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee safety operations at an underground mining site

Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant legislation

Conduct and oversee incident investigations using methods such as ICAM, RCAT, or SCAT
-
Coordinate internal audits, reviews, and inspections to identify risks and non-conformances

Develop, implement, and monitor safety procedures and standards

Lead safety projects and promote a culture of safety among all teams

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and management to mitigate risks

Mentor and train junior safety personnel
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications:

Degree in Safety or Risk Management (essential)

Project Management Certificate (advantageous)

Auditors Certificate (essential)

Training or certification in Incident Investigation methods (ICAM, RCAT, or SCAT)
Experience:

10 years’ experience in underground mining
-
5+ years in a Chief Safety Officer or equivalent leadership role
