Job Overview
The Athletics Administrator will be responsible for the effective day-to-day administration of the University’s athletics department or office.
The role involves coordinating schedules and communication, maintaining athlete records, supporting competitions and training activities, assisting with budgeting and purchasing, and facilitating communication between athletics management, athletes, coaches, university staff and external organisations.
The successful candidate will also be expected to ensure that athletics activities comply with relevant institutional policies and governing-body regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The Athletics Administrator will be responsible for:
- Managing the day-to-day administrative functions of the athletics department or office.
- Coordinating schedules and communications for coaches, athletes and staff.
- Maintaining records relating to athlete registrations, eligibility and compliance.
- Assisting with the planning and logistical coordination of competitions, training sessions and meetings.
- Handling correspondence, telephone calls and enquiries relating to athletics programmes.
- Preparing reports, presentations and other documentation as required by the Athletics Manager.
- Organising databases and information systems relating to athletics activities.
- Supporting budgeting, purchasing and inventory management for athletics equipment and supplies.
- Facilitating communication between the Athletics Manager, athletes, coaches, university staff and external organisations.
- Ensuring compliance with institutional policies and athletics governing-body regulations.
- Providing general administrative and operational support to the athletics team to ensure smooth programme delivery.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A relevant NQF Level 7 qualification in Sport Management, Sport Administration, Sport Science, Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.
- At least two years’ relevant experience in sport administration.
- A valid safeguarding certificate in sport, child protection or athlete safeguarding, issued by a recognised sporting, educational or professional body. A copy must be attached.
- A valid driver’s licence. A copy must be attached.
Recommended Experience and Knowledge
The following will be advantageous:
- Experience in a university or tertiary sporting environment.
- Knowledge of hosting and coordinating sporting events.
- Knowledge of financial management.
- Knowledge of sporting procedures.
- Knowledge of sporting pathways and talent identification.
- Understanding of the administration and operational support of high-performance sport programmes.

Salary and Benefits
The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is R464,881.91 – R585,070.51 per annum. The final package will depend on the available budget, relevant work experience and qualifications.
