AGRICULTURAL ADVISOR
The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (FSDARD) is currently offering an exciting opportunity for qualified, motivated individuals to join its team as Agricultural Advisors. The Agricultural Advisor will be responsible for implementing and managing agricultural development programs across various districts in the Free State province. These include Glen, Xhariep (Jacobsdal and Philipolis), Mangaung Metro (Botshabelo), Thabo Mofutsanyana (Vrede, Warden, Petrusteyn, Bethlehem, Ficksburg, Ladybrand), and Lejweleputswa (Welkom, Hoopstad, Virginia).
This position is ideal for recent graduates in the agricultural sciences field who are passionate about community development, sustainability, and modern farming practices. Candidates will work closely with farmers, stakeholders, and government entities to uplift agricultural productivity, support farm management, and introduce innovative solutions for rural challenges.

Responsibilities:

Conduct situational analyses to identify farming needs and development opportunities.

Develop action plans, determine resource requirements, and facilitate the implementation of modern agricultural practices.

Provide technical and scientific extension services to internal and external clients.

Support and monitor government-funded projects such as CASP and Ilima.

Organize demonstrations, training, and farmer days to promote knowledge transfer and efficient use of resources.

Facilitate access to supporting infrastructure like transport, markets, water, and electricity.

Assist farmers in creating and executing farm business plans.

Maintain and update databases and submit monthly, quarterly, and other required reports.

Collaborate with specialists in fields such as science, engineering, and economics for expert input and advice.

Empower and build the capacity of local producers and commodity groups to promote self-reliance.

Facilitate farmer access to appropriate training and assess the effectiveness of newly acquired skills.

Use ICT tools for improved service delivery and decision-making support.
Qualifications:

Educational Requirement: Grade 12 plus an NQF Level 8 qualification in Agriculture or an equivalent qualification recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Professional Registration: Mandatory registration with SACNASP or another relevant statutory professional body.

Experience: No prior experience required (entry-level graduates welcome).

License: A valid driver’s license is required (exceptions made for applicants with disabilities).
