    Job Description

    The Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cold Store, Logistics, and Dispatch Department during an allocated shift. The role focuses on ensuring operational efficiency, compliance with standard operating procedures, health and safety compliance, stock control, staff supervision, and maintaining productivity within a cold storage environment.

    The successful candidate will provide leadership to employees, coordinate shift activities, ensure continuity of operations, and support the Cold Store Manager in achieving departmental objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Management

    • Oversee all activities within the Cold Store, Logistics, and Dispatch Department during assigned shifts.
    • Ensure efficient and uninterrupted shift operations.
    • Monitor workflow and productivity levels.
    • Ensure adherence to operational procedures and company standards.

    Compliance and Quality Control

    • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed.
    • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Maintain operational standards throughout the shift.
    • Conduct daily inspections in the -20°C holding room.

    Health and Safety

    • Monitor and enforce Health and Safety regulations.
    • Ensure employees comply with safety requirements.
    • Promote a safe working environment within cold storage facilities.
    • Address safety concerns and report incidents where necessary.

    Staff Management

    • Supervise and manage shift employees.
    • Provide leadership, motivation, and support to team members.
    • Manage employee discipline and performance.
    • Foster teamwork and productivity within the department.

    Communication and Coordination

    • Communicate effectively with other departments.
    • Coordinate with other Shift Managers to ensure smooth operational continuity.
    • Escalate operational issues when necessary.
    • Report directly to the Cold Store Manager.

    Administration and Reporting

    • Complete shift reports accurately and timeously.
    • Assist with stock control and inventory records.
    • Utilize computer systems, email, and Excel for reporting and operational tasks.
    • Maintain accurate departmental records.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Matric (Grade 12).

    Technical Requirements

    • Computer literacy.
    • Working knowledge of:
      • Email
      • Microsoft Excel
    • Good understanding and use of barcode scanners.

    Advantageous

    • Knowledge of:
      • Syspro
      • Translution
      • Tereoka

    Experience

    • Experience in a cold store, logistics, warehouse, or dispatch environment will be advantageous.
    • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience will be beneficial.

    Language Requirements

    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • A second language will be advantageous.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to work in a freezer environment.
    • Must be in good health.
    • Able to work day and night shifts on a rotational basis.
