Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Casual Merchandiser to join its Langenhoven Park store in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards, ensuring shelves are well-stocked and properly presented, and providing excellent customer service.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience.
- Computer literate, including MS Office.
- Willing and able to work retail hours.
Advantageous:
- At least 1 year of retail experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise to maximise sales.
- Ensure delivered and storeroom stock is correctly stored and packed.
- Check shelves regularly for expired products.
- Ensure the full product range is available on shelves.
- Rotate stock according to the FIFO (First In, First Out) principle.
- Report low stock, out-of-stock, damaged and expired products to management.
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s store layouts, operating standards and planograms.
- Keep shelves, products and merchandising displays neat, visible and correctly priced.
- Report price discrepancies to management.
- Stay informed about current and new products.
- Build, maintain and replenish merchandising displays.
- Maintain the physical appearance of the store and displays.
- Take responsibility for designated stock in the storeroom and shop floor.
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock.
- Clearly mark items without barcodes.
- Assist with back shopping.
- Support the training of new employees.
- Provide friendly, helpful and professional assistance to customers.
- Follow up on customer queries relating to out-of-stock products.
- Resolve customer stock-related queries.
- Wear the correct uniform and identification badge.
- Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
- Follow Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, health and safety rules and regulations.

- Bilingual.
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
- Product and category knowledge.
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking.
- Ability to identify and report suspicious behaviour involving staff or customers.
Special Conditions

- Be willing and able to work retail hours.
- Be physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes while following health and safety requirements.
- Have reliable transport and/or live close to the store.
- Be a South African citizen.
