    • Grade 3: R413,199 – R472,449 per annum

    Job Description

    The Station Manager will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of Emergency Medical Services activities at the assigned station in Theunissen or Winburg.

    The successful candidate will oversee personnel, finances, vehicles, equipment and operational resources while ensuring that EMS policies, procedures, occupational health and safety requirements and service standards are maintained.

    The role also involves responding to major incidents, coordinating emergency and rescue operations, managing station resources, dealing with public enquiries and complaints, and ensuring the effective delivery of emergency medical services within the operational area.

    Responsibilities

    General Station Management

    • Perform general office administration.
    • Take overall responsibility for EMS activities at the station.
    • Ensure compliance with EMS policies and procedures.
    • Provide advice to staff on procedures and policy matters.
    • Ensure effective management of station resources.
    • Maintain an inventory of all resources at the station.
    • Manage EMS occupational health and safety at the station.

    Human Resource Management

    • Ensure completion of staff performance agreements.
    • Monitor staff performance.
    • Manage shift rosters.
    • Manage personnel leave.
    • Manage staff discipline and conflict.
    • Support personnel training and education.
    • Provide overall supervision of station personnel.
    • Assist with maintaining effective staff relations.

    Financial and Asset Management

    • Manage personnel allowances, including standby and overtime payments.
    • Manage employer assets such as vehicles and equipment.
    • Ensure proper allocation and control of vehicles and equipment.
    • Maintain effective resource management at station level.

    Fleet Management

    • Ensure fleet management procedures are properly implemented.
    • Ensure vehicles are maintained and repaired according to the applicable Transport Policy.
    • Monitor the availability and operational readiness of EMS vehicles.

    Reporting and Communication

    • Compile and complete monthly reports and statistical data.
    • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly operational information.
    • Communicate effectively with staff and management.
    • Liaise with stakeholders on matters relating to Emergency Medical Services.

    Public and Stakeholder Liaison

    • Assist members of the public with enquiries.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding EMS matters.
    • Investigate service complaints received from internal and external sources.
    • Report investigated complaints to the Sub-District Manager.

    Emergency and Incident Management

    • Respond to major incidents within the operational area.
    • Assist with coordinating major incidents.
    • Participate in rescue responses when required.
    • Attend to outstanding emergency calls when necessary.
    • Attend incident debriefing meetings.
    • Manage EMS incidents effectively.
    • Coordinate search and rescue structures.
    • Assist with medical rescue management.

    Requirements

    Applicants must have a Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification, together with the appropriate emergency care qualification for the relevant salary grade.

    Grade 3

    • Successful completion of an appropriate Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course.
    • Qualification must allow registration with the HPCSA as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).
    • At least 3 years’ experience after HPCSA registration as an AEA.
    • Compulsory exposure to managerial or supervisory line functions.

    Grade 4

    • Successful completion of an Emergency Care Technician (ECT) course.
    • Qualification must allow registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Technician.
    • At least 3 years’ experience after HPCSA registration as an ECT.
    • Compulsory exposure to managerial or supervisory line functions.

    Grade 5

    • Successful completion of a Critical Care Assistant (CCA) course or National Diploma that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Paramedic.
    • At least 3 years’ experience after HPCSA registration as a Paramedic.
    • Compulsory exposure to managerial or supervisory line functions.

    Grade 6

    • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Technology Degree that allows registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
    • At least 3 years’ experience after HPCSA registration as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
    • Compulsory exposure to managerial or supervisory line functions.

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence with a Professional Driver’s Permit (PDP).
    • The advert also specifies a valid Code C1 driver’s licence with an unendorsed PDP.
    • A Diploma in Management or higher qualification will be an added advantage.
