    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    Pharmaceutical Care

    • Evaluating patients’ medicine-related needs to ensure therapy is safe and effective.
    • Dispensing prescription medicines and scheduled substances in accordance with legal requirements.
    • Reviewing and signing off prescriptions prepared by pharmacist assistants or interns.
    • Providing patients with professional advice on the safe and effective use of medication.
    • Monitoring patient compliance with prescribed treatment.
    • Providing pharmacist-initiated therapy where appropriate.
    • Referring patients to in-store healthcare services when necessary.

    Dispensing and Medication Management

    • Accurately interpreting prescriptions.
    • Capturing prescription details and verifying patient information.
    • Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication accurately.
    • Identifying potential drug interactions and ensuring appropriate dosages.
    • Maintaining accurate patient medication records.
    • Managing customer profiles and updating patient information.

    Medical Aid Administration

    • Processing medical aid claims accurately.
    • Explaining medical aid costs to patients.
    • Correcting rejected medical aid claims.
    • Obtaining authorisation for chronic medication, HIV/AIDS treatment, and oncology medicines.
    • Keeping informed about changes in medical aid requirements.

    Stock and Dispensary Management

    • Assisting the Dispensary Manager with pharmacy administration.
    • Reporting low stock levels and stock discrepancies.
    • Participating in bi-annual stocktakes.
    • Maintaining stock, cash, and asset control.
    • Ensuring pharmacy registers comply with legislative requirements.
    • Maintaining housekeeping standards in accordance with Dis-Chem policies.

    Compliance

    • Following Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines.
    • Adhering to Dis-Chem policies and standard operating procedures.
    • Complying with health and safety regulations.
    • Maintaining professional appearance and uniform standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • Grade 12 (Matric).
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or equivalent qualification.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    • 2–3 years’ pharmaceutical experience.
    • 2–3 years’ retail pharmacy experience (including internship or student experience).
    • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.

    Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

    Preference will be given to candidates with:

    • Retail or FMCG experience.
    • Registered Tutor status.
    • Experience using Unisolv pharmacy software.
    • SAP experience.
    • E-Scripting experience.
    • Ability to speak a third language.
