Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Dispensary Management
- Managing the daily operations of the dispensary and self-medication department.
- Supervising dispensary staff and ensuring work is performed within their legal scope of practice.
- Maintaining compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards and SAPC regulations.
- Ensuring Schedule 6 medicines are securely stored and registers are balanced quarterly.
- Keeping SAPC registration and annual fees up to date.
Stock Control
- Monitoring stock levels and ensuring adequate inventory.
- Investigating and resolving negative stock daily.
- Preventing expired or short-dated stock from remaining on shelves.
- Managing the disposal of expired medicines according to company procedures.
- Preparing the dispensary for stocktakes.
- Following stock ordering procedures to maximise purchasing compliance.
Pharmaceutical Care
- Accurately interpreting prescriptions.
- Capturing prescription details and verifying patient information.
- Dispensing medication correctly, including accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking.
- Advising patients on the correct use of prescribed medication.
- Monitoring drug interactions and correct dosages.
Medical Aid Administration
- Processing medical aid claims accurately.
- Explaining medical aid costs to patients.
- Managing authorisations for chronic medication, HIV/AIDS treatment, and oncology medicine.
- Maintaining and updating customer profiles on pharmacy systems.
Staff Development
- Supervising and mentoring dispensary staff.
- Training the Dispensary Administration Assistant.
- Leading by example and promoting excellent customer service.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or an equivalent qualification.
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Registered Tutor status.
- Experience using the Unisolv pharmacy system.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Good command of English and a second language.
- Willingness to work retail trading hours.
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Previous management experience supervising at least seven employees.
- Retail or FMCG experience.
- Knowledge of SAP.
- Experience with E-Scripting systems.
- Ability to speak a third language.
