Job Description
The Vaal-Orange Catchment Management Agency is seeking an experienced Information Technology Technician to provide technical support and maintain the organisation’s IT infrastructure, systems and end-user services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software and network-related issues, maintaining IT systems, enforcing IT policies and standards, supporting users and ensuring the availability and security of ICT services across the organisation.
The role may require travel to remote sites and offices, as well as overtime and standby duties when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor calls logged on the IT call-management system.
- Provide end-user support for:
- Computer hardware.
- Software applications.
- Network connectivity.
- Ensure IT policies, norms and standards are implemented and enforced.
- Perform quality control and maintenance of the Local Area Network (LAN).
- Install, maintain and upgrade computer hardware.
- Conduct second-level fault finding and identification.
- Install and upgrade software applications where these services are not provided by the outsourced IT partner.
- Provide and maintain internet and email client services.
- Ensure antivirus signatures and operating-system patches remain up to date.
- Initiate and coordinate IT change-control procedures.
- Provide technical input for computer end-user training and development.
- Perform routine backups for available servers.
- Compile monthly IT performance reports.
- Assist the Deputy Director: Regional Information Systems Support with IT-related activities.
- Perform overtime and standby duties when required.
- Travel to various offices and remote sites as operationally required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology.
- At least three years’ appropriate IT experience.
- A valid, unexpired driver’s licence.
- A+ and Network+ certification.
Advantageous Certifications
The following certifications would be advantageous:
- Certified Microsoft Engineer.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE).
Technical Knowledge
Knowledge and experience in the following would be advantageous:
- Windows 7.
- Windows 8.
- Windows 10.
- Microsoft Office 2010.
- Microsoft Office 2013.
- Microsoft Office 365.
- Symantec Antivirus.
- Microsoft systems.
- Transversal systems such as:
- PERSAL.
- SAP.
- LOGIS.
- ITIL.
