    Job Purpose

    The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and non-blood specimens from patients accurately and professionally. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring correct specimen handling, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting reliable diagnostic services.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Recognised qualification in:
      • Phlebotomy, or
      • Nursing (Registered Nurse)
    • Current registration with:
      • HPCSA as a Phlebotomy Technician, or
      • SANC as a Registered Nurse
    • 1–5 years’ experience as a Phlebotomist or related role in:
      • Pathology laboratory environment, or
      • Hospital setting

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform blood collection and non-blood specimen collection procedures.
    • Ensure specimens are collected, labelled, handled, and transported correctly.
    • Provide compassionate and professional patient care.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
    • Ensure accurate patient information and documentation.
    • Capture and manage patient data using digital systems.
    • Handle payments and related administrative duties when required.
    • Follow safety, infection control, and quality standards.
    • Represent Ampath professionally during patient interactions.
    • Contribute to excellent diagnostic service delivery.
