Job Purpose
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and non-blood specimens from patients accurately and professionally. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring correct specimen handling, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting reliable diagnostic services.
Minimum Requirements
- Recognised qualification in:
- Phlebotomy, or
- Nursing (Registered Nurse)
- Current registration with:
- HPCSA as a Phlebotomy Technician, or
- SANC as a Registered Nurse
- 1–5 years’ experience as a Phlebotomist or related role in:
- Pathology laboratory environment, or
- Hospital setting
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood collection and non-blood specimen collection procedures.
- Ensure specimens are collected, labelled, handled, and transported correctly.
- Provide compassionate and professional patient care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Ensure accurate patient information and documentation.
- Capture and manage patient data using digital systems.
- Handle payments and related administrative duties when required.
- Follow safety, infection control, and quality standards.
- Represent Ampath professionally during patient interactions.
- Contribute to excellent diagnostic service delivery.
