Objective:
Appoint a service provider to perform structural engineering services for the repair and renovation of the burnt kitchen at Ficksburg Prison, ensuring compliance, quality, safety, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic participation targets.
Scope of Work
Normal Services:
- Inception, preliminary and detailed design
- Documentation and procurement
- Contract administration, inspection, and project close-out
Additional Services:
- Construction monitoring and supervision
- Occupational health and safety compliance
- Quality assurance
- Leadership and management of multidisciplinary tasks
Special Services:
- Environmental impact assessments
- Security clearance for key personnel
- Compliance with targeted procurement goals (black ownership, local area work, disability/youth participation)
Project Tasks Include:
- Supervising crack repairs and surface bed works
- Concealing extractor holes and other kitchen repair works
- Coordination with other engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical)
Technical Requirements
- Professional engineering services compliant with 2023 NDPWI Scope of Engineering Services
- Design and documentation compliant with local legislation and environmental regulations
- Coordination with multidisciplinary teams and authorities
- Implementation of environmental management plans and Labour-Intensive Works guidelines
- Use of compatible software for project documentation and scheduling
- Security clearance for designated personnel
- Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993
Skills & Competence Required
- Registered professional engineers or technologists in relevant disciplines: structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, electronic
- Proven experience in similar repair and renovation projects within the last 5 years
- Capacity to deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with standards
- Expertise in environmental management, OHS, and construction supervision
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and liaise with authorities
- Knowledge and implementation of targeted procurement policies
- Competence in project management and documentation software compatible with departmental standards
