Position Overview
The Lecturer: B.Ed. Honours (Life Science) is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning within the Bachelor of Education Honours programme, supporting student success, managing assessments, monitoring academic performance, and contributing to the institution’s academic excellence.
The successful candidate will lecture Life Science-related education modules, assist students academically, develop assessments, monitor student progress, and participate in academic development initiatives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lectures according to module requirements and academic schedules.
- Facilitate engaging classroom and online learning experiences.
- Present Life Science education content effectively.
- Ensure teaching aligns with curriculum outcomes and module guides.
- Monitor student attendance and participation.
Student Support
- Provide academic guidance and consultation to students.
- Identify students at risk academically.
- Implement intervention strategies to improve student success.
- Support students with coursework and assessment preparation.
- Monitor learner engagement throughout the academic cycle.
Assessment and Evaluation
- Develop assessments according to academic requirements.
- Mark assignments, tests, projects, and examinations.
- Provide constructive and developmental feedback.
- Track assessment submissions and student performance.
- Ensure assessment quality and academic integrity.
Learning Management System Administration
- Update and manage online learning platforms.
- Upload academic materials and resources.
- Communicate assessment information and feedback through digital platforms.
- Maintain accurate academic records.
Academic Monitoring and Reporting
- Analyse student performance results.
- Identify trends affecting academic achievement.
- Assist with monitoring module effectiveness.
- Support the identification of “at-risk” modules and students.
- Escalate concerns where intervention is required.
Academic Development
- Participate in academic meetings and faculty activities.
- Engage in professional academic development programmes.
- Contribute to improving teaching and learning practices.
- Maintain and develop subject knowledge and educational expertise.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualification
- Bachelor of Education Honours Degree (B.Ed. Honours)
Additional Requirement
- Qualification must be at least one NQF level higher than the qualification being taught.
- Academic transcript must be submitted.
Experience Requirements
Teaching Experience
- School teaching experience in Life Sciences or related subjects.
Academic Experience
- 2–3 years lecturing or formal tutoring experience.
Advantageous
- 1–3 years industry-related experience in the area of specialization.
