Job Overview
The Driver: Light Duty will be responsible for transporting and delivering goods to customers along designated routes.
The role requires a safety-conscious and trustworthy individual who can manage delivery schedules, maintain accurate proof-of-delivery documentation, care for the company vehicle and communicate effectively with supervisors and customers.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12.
- At least 3 years’ delivery experience.
- A valid driver’s licence with Professional Driving Permit (PDP) – essential.
- Good time management skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Honest and demonstrates strong integrity.
- Sober habits.
- Clear criminal record.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
- Inspecting the vehicle before departure and upon return.
- Completing vehicle inspection lists and submitting them to the Dispatch Supervisor every Monday for sign-off.
- Reporting any vehicle errors or defects immediately before leaving the premises.
- Maintaining and cleaning the vehicle.
- Reporting any vehicle problems immediately to the Dispatch Supervisor.
Loading and Dispatch
- Checking parcels with the supervisor before loading them into the vehicle.
- Following the company’s New Dispatch Loading Procedure at all times.
- Ensuring all parcels correspond with the assigned route and trip sheet.
Deliveries and Collections
- Delivering parcels to customers according to the designated route, route schedule and trip sheet.
- Ensuring customers follow the required Proof of Delivery (POD) procedure.
- Adhering to the RFC procedure.
- Delivering all documents and collection slips assigned to the trip sheet.
- Ensuring the required POD is received for deliveries and collections.
Documentation and Accountability
- Signing trip sheets in with the POD Clerk.
- Ensuring all documents assigned to the driver’s name are complete and returned the following day.
- Following up on outstanding trip sheets.
- Taking responsibility for any claims arising from missing POD documentation.
- Ensuring all delivery and collection paperwork is accurately completed.
Communication and Compliance
- Reporting any problems encountered during deliveries to the Dispatch Supervisor.
- Reporting issues relating to PODs promptly.
- Following all company procedures and delivery requirements.
- Ensuring that no stock transfers take place between customer shops.
