Job Description
VKB Grain is looking for a responsible and reliable Junior Industrial Operator to join its silo operations team in Douglas. The successful candidate will perform a range of operational tasks related to grain handling, storage and protection.
The role involves operating grain-handling equipment, monitoring grain flow and temperatures, supporting fumigation activities and ensuring that silo operations comply with VKB Group’s health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor the flow of grain throughout the facility.
- Operate grain-handling equipment, including conveyors, elevators and related machinery.
- Assist with ongoing grain protection and fumigation as instructed by the supervisor.
- Monitor grain tube temperatures and report any deviations to the supervisor.
- Measure grain tubes according to company policies and safety regulations.
- Operate the silo in accordance with VKB Group policies and procedures.
- Comply with all health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within silo operations.
- Assist senior operators and management with daily operational requirements.
- Perform varied and complex tasks associated with grain handling and storage.
- Maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role and environment.
- A Certificate in Grain Grading and Grain Fumigation will be an advantage.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- A valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.
- Good understanding of operational and safety procedures.
