Job Description
The successful candidate will contribute to economic research, analysis and policy-related activities within the provincial government environment.
The role will involve conducting socio-economic research, analysing key economic variables and their relationship to the provincial budget, contributing to major economic and budget publications, and maintaining up-to-date provincial socio-economic indicators. The successful candidate will also contribute to departmental research outputs and publications.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the annual Provincial Economic Review and Outlook (PERO) publication.
- Contribute to the Municipal Economic Review and Outlook (MERO) publication.
- Contribute to Section 3 of the Provincial Budget Statement 1, focusing on economic, social and labour issues.
- Contribute to annual financial statements or the Quarterly Labour Market Review.
- Conduct and support socio-economic research and analysis.
- Analyse key economic variables, their interrelationships and their relevance to the provincial budget.
- Periodically collect, maintain and update provincial socio-economic indicators in the relevant database.
- Conduct research and contribute to departmental publications.
- Provide economic analysis and research support as required.
Requirements
- An Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma at NQF Level 8 in:
- Economics;
- Econometrics;
- Statistics;
- Mathematical Statistics; or
- An equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of three years’ working experience in a research or economic policy analysis environment.
- Knowledge of:
- Division of Revenue Act.
- Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
- Public Service Regulations.
- Treasury Regulations.
- Research methods.
- Macroeconomics.
- Socio-economics.
- Policy interpretation and formulation.
- Computer literacy.
- Valid driver’s licence.
