- Salary: R253,341 – R424,371 per annum
- Salary grade and notch will be determined according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) requirements and the successful candidate’s years of relevant experience.
Job Purpose
The Artisan Production (Welder) is responsible for performing welding and metal fabrication work, maintaining welding equipment, producing high-quality manufactured products, training offenders and apprentices, supporting workshop administration, preparing quotations and cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards within correctional facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Welding and Fabrication
- Perform welding and fabrication work according to approved job requests.
- Manufacture and repair metal structures, equipment, and components.
- Read and interpret work orders and technical specifications.
- Carry out welding maintenance services.
- Ensure completed work meets required standards.
2. Production Services
- Execute work according to client requisitions and orders.
- Manufacture products within agreed specifications.
- Meet production deadlines.
- Ensure efficient workflow within the workshop.
3. Quality Control
- Inspect completed products.
- Apply quality control procedures to manufactured items.
- Ensure workmanship complies with technical standards.
- Correct defects where required.
4. Costing and Quotations
- Prepare product cost estimates.
- Compile supply quotations.
- Assist with pricing calculations.
- Support efficient use of workshop resources.
5. Workshop Administration
- Perform basic workshop administration.
- Maintain production records.
- Complete maintenance documentation.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Maintain job records and supporting documentation.
6. Training and Skills Development
- Train offenders in welding and fabrication skills.
- Mentor and supervise apprentices.
- Promote practical workplace learning.
- Monitor learner progress and competency development.
7. Resource Management
- Manage welding tools and equipment.
- Monitor the use of workshop materials.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
- Maintain workshop equipment in good working condition.
8. General Administration
- Perform administrative and related duties.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Ensure compliance with departmental procedures.
- Support workshop operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Welder) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act (Red Seal).
- A valid driver’s licence.
