      • Salary grade and notch will be determined according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) requirements and the successful candidate’s years of relevant experience.

    Job Purpose

    The Artisan Production (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration systems within correctional facilities. The role also includes training offenders in the trade, carrying out maintenance work according to client requests, ensuring quality workmanship, preparing cost estimates and quotations, performing workshop administration, and managing resources.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Maintenance

    • Install, service, and repair air conditioning systems.
    • Install, service, and repair refrigeration equipment.
    • Diagnose faults in cooling and refrigeration systems.
    • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
    • Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
    • Respond to maintenance requests.

    2. Production and Maintenance Services

    • Execute work according to approved requisitions and client orders.
    • Complete maintenance tasks within required timeframes.
    • Ensure work complies with technical specifications and departmental standards.
    • Maintain facility air conditioning and refrigeration infrastructure.

    3. Quality Control

    • Inspect completed work.
    • Apply quality control measures to maintenance and repair activities.
    • Ensure work meets prescribed technical and safety standards.
    • Rectify identified defects where necessary.

    4. Costing and Quotations

    • Prepare cost estimates for products and services.
    • Compile quotations for supplies and maintenance work.
    • Assist with material and labour costing.
    • Promote cost-effective use of departmental resources.

    5. Workshop Administration

    • Perform basic workshop administrative duties.
    • Maintain maintenance and service records.
    • Prepare technical reports.
    • Record completed work and resource usage.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of workshop activities.

    6. Training and Skills Development

    • Train offenders in air conditioning and refrigeration trade skills.
    • Provide practical instruction and mentorship.
    • Monitor learner progress.
    • Promote workplace skills development.

    7. Resource Management

    • Manage workshop tools and specialised equipment.
    • Monitor stock and materials.
    • Ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
    • Maintain equipment in good working condition.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act (Red Seal).
    • A valid driver’s licence.
