Job Description
The Shop Assistant Cashier is responsible for delivering excellent customer service through efficient point-of-sale (POS) operations, merchandising, and store support activities. The role focuses on creating a positive shopping experience by assisting customers, processing transactions accurately, promoting loyalty programmes, and maintaining store presentation standards.
The successful candidate will serve as a brand ambassador for Clicks while ensuring customers receive professional, friendly, and efficient service.
Key Responsibilities
Point of Sale (POS) Operations
- Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently.
- Scan merchandise and collect payments correctly.
- Process ClubCard rewards and loyalty transactions.
- Ensure all POS procedures are followed.
- Minimize transaction errors and discrepancies.
Cash Handling
- Handle cash and payment transactions safely and responsibly.
- Maintain accuracy when processing cash, card, and electronic payments.
- Follow company cash control and security procedures.
- Balance cash transactions according to store requirements.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
- Assist customers with enquiries and product information.
- Provide a friendly, professional, and welcoming shopping experience.
- Act as a brand ambassador for Clicks.
ClubCard Promotion
- Promote the Clicks ClubCard loyalty programme.
- Encourage customers to join the ClubCard programme.
- Achieve ClubCard participation and enrolment targets.
- Explain ClubCard benefits to customers.
Sales and Promotions
- Inform customers about current promotions and special offers.
- Support sales initiatives and promotional campaigns.
- Help customers identify products that meet their needs.
- Contribute to store sales performance.
Merchandising
- Assist with merchandising activities and product displays.
- Ensure shelves are stocked and products are displayed correctly.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards.
- Support promotional and seasonal displays.
Housekeeping and Store Presentation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the store.
- Ensure work areas are neat and presentable.
- Support general housekeeping activities.
- Help maintain a positive shopping environment.
Product Knowledge
- Maintain knowledge of products, promotions, and store events.
- Stay informed about new products and ranges.
- Provide accurate information to customers.
- Assist customers in locating products within the store.
Brand and Values Alignment

Minimum Requirements
Education
Essential
- Grade 12 (Matric).
Desirable
- Mathematics (50%) at Grade 12 level.
- English (50%) at Grade 12 level.
Experience
Desirable
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Retail or FMCG store operations experience.
- Cash handling or cashier experience.
Note: Experience is advantageous but not mandatory, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity.
