Job Description
The Officer will support the university’s financial and accounting operations by processing journals, handling financial administration, ensuring compliance with financial policies, generating reports, and assisting staff with financial queries and procedures.
The role requires someone who is detail-oriented, organised, analytical, and capable of working within strict financial controls and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Client Support
- Assist academic and support staff with finance-related queries.
- Escalate complex issues to management.
- Train staff on financial policies and procedures.
Financial Data Capturing
- Capture and process daily journal entries.
- Finalise subsystem and routine journals.
- Process year-end journals.
- Follow up on outstanding journals before month-end closures.
- Process petty cash claims.
Compliance and Financial Control
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.
- Monitor compliance regarding:
- Procurement processes
- Expense reimbursements
- Travel and subsistence claims
- Electronic approvals
- Journal processing procedures
Quality Assurance
- Compile exception reports on foreign payments and ledger queries.
- Monitor electronic security and general ledger accuracy.
- Ensure financial data integrity and quality.
Reporting
- Generate internal management and exception reports.
- Follow up on irregularities identified in reports.
Process Administration
- Ensure travel authorisations, cash advances, and expense claims are processed within required turnaround times.
- Track approvals and outstanding transactions.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, B.Tech Degree, or Postgraduate Certificate on NQF Level 7 in Accounting.
- At least 2 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.

The annual remuneration package ranges from approximately:
R464,881 – R585,370 per year
