    Job Description

    The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the pharmacy dispensary and clinic while ensuring the delivery of exceptional pharmaceutical care and customer service. The role involves leading the pharmacy team, ensuring accurate and safe dispensing of medication, maintaining compliance with professional and legal standards, and achieving operational, financial, and sales objectives.

    The successful candidate will oversee stock management, financial performance, people management, customer service initiatives, and regulatory compliance. They will work closely with store and clinic teams to provide integrated healthcare services, improve customer satisfaction, and support the company’s vision of being the preferred health and beauty retailer.

    Key Responsibilities

    Pharmaceutical Care

    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care.
    • Supervise accurate and safe dispensing of medicines.
    • Perform generic substitution in accordance with legal requirements.
    • Provide professional pharmaceutical advice and patient counselling.
    • Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards.
    • Practice within the legal scope defined by the South African Pharmacy Council.
    • Promote patient safety and quality healthcare services.

    Dispensary Operations

    • Manage all operational activities within the dispensary.
    • Ensure efficient dispensing workflows.
    • Maintain accurate pharmacy administration and documentation.
    • Ensure dispensary housekeeping meets company standards.
    • Monitor compliance with company policies and pharmacy regulations.

    Stock & Inventory Management

    • Manage pharmacy stock levels.
    • Monitor stock ordering and availability.
    • Control shrinkage and stock losses.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of medicines.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records.
    • Implement stock control procedures.

    Financial Management

    • Ensure the financial sustainability of the dispensary.
    • Manage dispensary and clinic budgets.
    • Monitor operational expenses.
    • Control costs and maximize profitability.
    • Achieve dispensary and clinic performance targets.
    • Take corrective action where financial objectives are not met.

    Leadership & People Management

    • Lead and supervise the pharmacy team.
    • Recruit, train, coach, and mentor employees.
    • Develop pharmacists, learners, interns, and support staff.
    • Conduct performance management and staff development.
    • Build a motivated and high-performing team.

    Staff Scheduling & Administration

    • Prepare staff schedules in accordance with labour policies.
    • Ensure adequate staffing across all pharmacy functions.
    • Manage employee attendance records.
    • Submit HR documentation accurately and on time.
    • Ensure compliance with labour legislation and company policies.

    Customer Service

    • Deliver exceptional customer service.
    • Promote customer loyalty and ClubCard participation.
    • Resolve customer enquiries and concerns professionally.
    • Maintain a positive customer experience within the pharmacy.
    • Support healthcare promotions and wellness initiatives.

    Clinic & Store Collaboration

    • Foster collaboration between the pharmacy, clinic, and retail store.
    • Ensure customers receive comprehensive healthcare services.
    • Support integrated healthcare solutions.
    • Promote teamwork across departments.

    Compliance & Risk Management

    • Ensure compliance with SAPC regulations and legal requirements.
    • Maintain ethical pharmacy practices.
    • Implement company policies and procedures.
    • Monitor risk management and operational compliance.
    • Maintain audit-ready documentation.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council.
    • Registered as a Responsible Pharmacist with SAPC.

    Experience Requirements

    Essential

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience after completing community service.
    • Minimum 1 year of people management experience.
    • Registration as a Responsible Pharmacist.

    Desirable

    • Retail pharmacy experience.
    • Experience using the Unisolv pharmacy management system.
