Role Purpose
The Team Leader is responsible for managing workshop employees and activities to ensure departmental targets are achieved at the required levels of efficiency, productivity, and customer service.
Reporting to: Service Manager
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Operations
Supervise daily workshop staff activities
Allocate technicians according to production plans
Ensure efficient work planning and execution
Monitor job progress and provide feedback to service advisors
Performance & Financial Targets
Ensure the workshop meets or exceeds key KPIs including:
Parts sales and Gross Profit (GP)
Workshop sales and Gross Profit
Materials and conversions
Expense control (Profit & Loss management)
Aftermarket absorption
Operating income and margins
Staff Management
Manage, train, and develop workshop employees
Conduct regular performance evaluations
Ensure full staff complement and adherence to company policies
Maintain compensation and performance dialogue processes
Customer Satisfaction
Drive customer-focused service delivery
Ensure high standards of workmanship
Address any quality or workmanship issues immediately
Workshop Control & Compliance
Manage work-in-progress (WIP) and invoicing
Ensure compliance with Volvo policies and procedures
Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations (SHEQ)
Technical Oversight
Ensure technicians follow Volvo standards
Oversee vehicle testing, road testing, and programming
Maintain technical literature and tools
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Matric or N3
Diesel Mechanic Trade Test
Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic
At least 2 years in a Team Leader or Supervisor role in a workshop environment
Key Competencies
Leadership and people supervision
Training and development of staff
Strong organisational skills
Technical diagnostic expertise
Ability to manage productivity and performance
