Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Security Controllers (SOTF) for its Talent Pool in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising on-site security operations, preventing losses, protecting company assets, and ensuring compliance with security policies and legal requirements.
This role focuses on on-site operational security, incident response, stock protection, and team supervision. The Security Controller will work closely with the off-site CCTV monitoring centre, store management, and law enforcement when required to maintain a safe and secure retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations
- Monitor the premises for suspicious behaviour and security risks.
- Investigate and report damage, unlawful entry, theft, or suspicious activities.
- Liaise with the off-site CCTV monitoring centre regarding incidents and footage requests.
- Respond promptly to alerts and security incidents.
- Assist customers, employees, suppliers, and visitors professionally.
- Protect company assets against theft, vandalism, and fraud.
- Supervise store opening and closing procedures.
- Monitor high-risk areas, including Bin 1000 and other designated locations.
- Investigate purchase disputes and coordinate CCTV reviews where necessary.
Loss Prevention & Stock Control
- Manage and monitor high-risk and high-value stock.
- Investigate stock losses, shrinkage, damages, and discrepancies.
- Ensure authorised stock write-offs comply with company procedures.
- Implement and enforce loss prevention strategies.
- Conduct physical security inspections and audits.
- Monitor warehouse access and stock deliveries.
- Analyse shrinkage trends and prepare reports.
- Work with Operations and Administration teams to improve stock security.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support on-site security personnel.
- Allocate duties and monitor staff performance.
- Ensure compliance with PSIRA regulations and company procedures.
- Provide coaching and on-the-job training.
- Conduct shift handovers and maintain operational continuity.
Safety & Emergency Response
- Respond to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents.
- Assist emergency response teams when required.
- Support evacuation procedures and emergency drills.
- Promote compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Help maintain order during emergency situations.
Rapid Response
- Respond quickly to security breaches and high-risk incidents.
- Manage shoplifting incidents lawfully and professionally.
- Coordinate with the South African Police Service (SAPS) where required.
- Compile investigation files and preserve evidence.
- Attend court proceedings when necessary.
- Support staff following serious incidents.
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain occurrence books, registers, and investigation records.
- Prepare detailed incident reports.
- Request and manage CCTV evidence for investigations.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, confidential, and audit-ready.
- Respond to security-related communications promptly.
General Responsibilities
- Follow all Dis-Chem policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain PSIRA registration and compliance.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- PSIRA Grade B or Grade A accreditation.
- Valid PSIRA registration.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ retail security experience within a shopping mall environment.
- Experience in:
- CCTV monitoring and incident reporting.
- Access control and loss prevention.
- Client liaison and operational reporting.
- Digital security systems.
- Electronic incident reporting systems.
- POPIA compliance relating to CCTV footage and personal information.
- Statement writing and evidence handling for legal proceedings.
Advantageous Qualifications & Knowledge
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Operational computer literacy.
- Experience using Hikvision security systems.
