Role Purpose
The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager to ensure:
- Safe and high-quality patient care
- Positive client experiences
- Mentorship for new and student nurses
- Coordination of care delivery and operational management
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating clinical risks
- Manage and enhance the client experience in the unit
- Optimise staffing resources including supply, retention, and utilisation
- Mentor and develop staff competence through continuous assessment
- Assist in managing operational expenses (including stock and capital)
Education Requirements
Essential:
- Professional Nurse qualification
- Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (required if managing a specialist unit, e.g., Perioperative Nursing)

Experience Requirements
Essential:
- 3 years of Professional Nurse experience in a hospital setting
- 1 year of mentorship experience

Skills & Knowledge Required
- Pharmacology and nursing processes/procedures
- Patient assessment and care plan development
- Infection prevention and control
- Nursing legislation compliance
- Nursing record-keeping and audits
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Basic life support, ACLS, ATLS, PALS (for specialised wards)
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Mentorship and staff development
