    Job Description

    This role involves providing technical engineering support, project management, and infrastructure oversight within water services development and maintenance programmes.

    The Engineering Technician will work on water infrastructure projects, monitoring implementation, and ensuring compliance with engineering and legal standards in the public water sector.

    Responsibilities

    1. Infrastructure Project Management

    • Manage and support water infrastructure projects including:
      • Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant (RBIG)
      • Water Services Infrastructure Grant (WSIG)
      • Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG)
      • Bucket Eradication Programme (BEP)
    • Monitor project implementation, progress, and compliance

    2. Technical Engineering Duties

    • Supervise and monitor engineering works
    • Ensure technical compliance with design and construction standards
    • Apply engineering principles in water infrastructure development
    • Support maintenance and refurbishment programmes

    3. Contract and Financial Management

    • Manage projects from:
      • Technical
      • Contractual
      • Financial perspectives
    • Ensure proper application of project budgets
    • Monitor contractor performance and compliance

    4. Compliance and Regulation

    • Ensure adherence to:
      • National Water Act (NWA)
      • National Environmental Management Act (NEMA)
    • Apply engineering policies, guidelines, and standards

    5. Stakeholder Engagement

    • Liaise with municipalities and contractors
    • Support cooperative governance structures
    • Maintain stakeholder relationships in infrastructure delivery

    6. Monitoring and Reporting

    • Monitor project progress and performance
    • Compile technical and progress reports
    • Support project evaluation and documentation

    7. General Engineering Support

    • Provide technical support in infrastructure development
    • Assist in planning and implementation of water services projects
    • Participate in multidisciplinary engineering teams

    Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    • National Diploma in Engineering

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 3 years technical engineering experience

    Professional Registration

    • Mandatory registration with:
      • Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
      • Professional Engineering Technician registration required

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid driver’s licence
