Contract Term: 5-Year Employment Contract
Salary: R1 741 770 per annum (All-inclusive SMS Level 15 package)

About the Role:
The Free State Provincial Government seeks an experienced, visionary, and transformational leader to head DESTEA. This role involves strategic leadership, financial oversight, governance, policy implementation, and driving economic and environmental development in the province. The successful candidate will act as the Accounting Officer and be responsible for aligning the department’s activities with national and provincial priorities.
Key Requirements:

Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent (SAQA-recognized)

Minimum of 10 years’ senior management experience

Completion of the Compulsory Pre-entry SMS Certificate (120-hour course)

Top Secret Security Clearance (will be conducted post-shortlisting)

Competency assessment and disclosure of financial interests

Excellent strategic and operational leadership capabilities

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and operational oversight to DESTEA

Act as Accounting Officer in terms of the PFMA

Promote small business, economic growth, and tourism transformation

Oversee environmental affairs, including biodiversity and climate change response

Build partnerships with the private sector, stakeholders, and SOEs
-
Ensure implementation of the Strategic and Annual Performance Plans
