Job Overview
The University of the Free State is looking for a qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join its Health and Wellness Centre at the Bloemfontein Campus.
The successful candidate will provide psychological and counselling services to students, including individual psychotherapy, group counselling, career counselling and academic support. The role will also involve crisis intervention, student development programmes, research, stakeholder engagement and participation in strategic initiatives within Student Affairs, Sport, Arts and Culture.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing psychological services in accordance with HPCSA scope of practice and ethical guidelines.
- Providing individual psychotherapy and group counselling.
- Providing career counselling and academic support to students.
- Participating in the university’s crisis intervention programme.
- Developing and presenting developmental workshops and programmes for students.
- Liaising with university departments, management and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintaining client records and performing case management.
- Conducting research and office administration.
- Promoting and marketing Student Counselling & Development services.
- Participating in continuous professional development and training.
- Engaging with external stakeholders.
- Participating in key strategic areas within Student Affairs, Sport, Arts and Culture.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Master’s degree in Counselling or Clinical Psychology (NQF Level 9).
- Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in the Counselling/Clinical Psychology category, with proof of registration attached.
- At least one year of therapeutic experience working with students in higher education, or with young adults.
- Involvement in student or young-adult life activities or initiatives.
Recommended Experience
The following will be advantageous:
- At least two years’ relevant counselling experience within a higher education environment.
- Experience providing career counselling to young adults.
- Experience providing trauma counselling to young adults.
- Ability to speak Sesotho and/or Zulu.
