Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Casual Merchandiser to join its Langenhoven Park store in Bloemfontein.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards, ensuring shelves and displays are properly stocked and presented, and providing friendly and professional customer service. The role also involves stock handling, rotation, housekeeping and assisting with general store operations.
Responsibilities
The Casual Merchandiser will be responsible for:
- Restocking merchandise to maximise sales.
- Receiving and packing delivered stock in the correct locations.
- Ensuring stock from the storeroom is packed on time and correctly.
- Checking shelves for expired or near-expiry products.
- Ensuring the full product range is available on shelves.
- Rotating stock according to the FIFO (First In, First Out) principle.
- Reporting low stock, out-of-stock, damaged and expired products to management.
- Assisting with stock counts and general stocktaking.
- Following store layouts, operating standards and planograms.
- Flattening boxes after unpacking stock and disposing of them in the designated area.
- Maintaining neat, visible and correctly priced shelves and products.
- Reporting pricing discrepancies.
- Keeping up to date with current and new products.
- Building, facing, stocking and maintaining merchandising displays.
- Maintaining the general appearance of the store and merchandise displays.
- Taking responsibility for designated stock in the storeroom and on the shop floor.
- Assisting with loading and off-loading stock.
- Clearly marking products without barcodes.
- Assisting with back shopping.
- Supporting the training of new staff members.
- Providing friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to customers.
- Following up on customer out-of-stock queries.
- Resolving customer stock-related queries.
- Wearing the correct uniform and name badge at all times.
- Handling merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
- Following Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs and health and safety regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
Advantageous
- At least 1 year of retail experience.

- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.

- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking.
- Ability to identify and report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour involving staff or customers.
Special Conditions of Employment

- Be willing and able to work retail hours.
- Be physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes while following health and safety requirements.
- Have reliable transport and/or live close to the Langenhoven Park store.
