    Job Description

    The Assistant Officer: Incident Response Officer is responsible for maintaining campus safety by responding to security incidents, conducting preliminary investigations, assisting with emergency management, performing patrols, identifying security risks, and supporting the Protection Services team in ensuring a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

    Key Responsibilities

    Incident Response

    • Respond promptly to reported incidents across campus.
    • Conduct preliminary investigations into reported incidents and cases.
    • Secure and cordon off incident scenes.
    • Capture photographic evidence at incident scenes.
    • Liaise with the Shift Leader regarding incident management.

    Security Operations

    • Conduct visible security patrols.
    • Perform routine building inspections.
    • Identify safety and security risks.
    • Compile and submit security reports to the Shift Leader.

    Emergency Response

    • Participate in emergency evacuation exercises.
    • Assist with protest management and emergency operations.
    • Support emergency response initiatives across campus.

    Operational Support

    • Assist the Shift Leader with incident management during shifts.
    • Act as Shift Leader when required.
    • Ensure compliance with university security procedures and protocols.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate (NQF Level 4).
    • Valid PSIRA Grade B Certificate.
    • Armed Response Certificate.
    • Valid South African driver’s licence (Code 8).
    • Minimum of one (1) year’s relevant work experience related to incident response and security services.

    Recommended Qualifications and Experience

    Preference will be given to candidates with:

    • Incident Investigation Certificate.
    • Crowd Control Certificate.
    • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.

    Salary

    Annual remuneration package (including benefits):

    • R240,866.45 – R403,692.54 per annum

    Salary will be determined based on the available budget, qualifications, and relevant experience.
