Job Overview
The Free State Department of Health is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Assistant Manager: PNB4 – Critical Care Nursing: Trauma & Emergency at Boitumelo Regional Hospital in Kroonstad.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and clinical leadership in the HIV/AIDS and TB (HAST) programme, support healthcare facilities and stakeholders, manage multidisciplinary teams, monitor programme implementation and analyse health data to improve patient outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have one of the following nursing qualifications:
- A Basic R425 qualification (Diploma/Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse; or
- A 4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse; or
- A 3-year Diploma in General Nursing (R171) allowing registration with SANC as a General Nurse.
Applicants must also have:
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification of at least 1 year, accredited by SANC.
- At least 10 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- At least 3 years of this experience at management level.
- Current SANC registration for 2026/2027.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Computer literacy.
Knowledge & Skills
The successful candidate should have:
- Training in HIV/AIDS management, including NIMART.
- Extensive experience in the HAST programme.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work additional hours.
- Strong teamwork and team-building abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across sectors and with stakeholders.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
- Ability to analyse data and conduct quality assessments.
- Appropriate financial-management skills.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing strategic direction for the HIV/AIDS and TB (HAST) programme within the district.
- Implementing strategies aimed at behavioural change, reducing new infections and improving patient retention in care.
- Implementing the HAST programme in accordance with strategic plans.
- Providing technical and clinical support to healthcare facilities and stakeholders.
- Implementing and monitoring HAST programmes throughout the district.
- Managing the HAST multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
- Analysing and managing HIV/AIDS and TB data to strengthen programme implementation.
- Conducting clinic and hospital support visits and audits to ensure programme compliance.
- Leading health and wellness events designed to influence positive behavioural change.
