    The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) of the Free State Provincial Government is mandated with delivering essential public infrastructure, facilities maintenance, and construction services across the province. Within the Directorate: Works Construction and Maintenance, the department ensures the integrity and functionality of government infrastructure, while contributing to job creation, economic stimulation, and skills development across local communities.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A completed Apprenticeship and passed Trade Test Certificate in accordance with:

      • Section 13(2)(h) of the Manpower Training Act of 1981 (as amended), or

      • A Certificate issued under Section 27 of the repealed Act.

    • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS), 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform artisan tasks in line with client specifications and departmental production standards.

    • Produce, service, and repair materials, components, or facilities using appropriate tools and methods.

    • Conduct quality assurance checks on all completed technical work.

    • Inspect and test equipment/facilities to detect faults and ensure functionality.

    • Maintain equipment and infrastructure in accordance with scheduled service plans.

    • Record and report completed work, faults, and interventions.

    • Contribute to the operational planning process by providing relevant trade-related input.

    • Mentor junior staff, support team development, and maintain workplace safety.

    • Keep abreast of new technologies, tools, and industry standards through self-development.
