    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the Department of Animal Science strategically and academically

    • Foster academic excellence in teaching, learning, and research

    • Represent the department in faculty and university-wide management structures

    • Develop and implement academic and research strategies

    • Promote collaboration and maintain effective communication within and outside the department

    • Manage teaching quality, module content relevance, and student engagement

    • Ensure compliance with university policies and academic standards

    • Oversee staff development, performance management, and succession planning

    • Recruit high-quality scholars aligned with strategic goals

    • Drive departmental research culture and postgraduate supervision

    • Support staff in applying for NRF ratings and external research funding

    • Manage budgeting, financial planning, and compliance

    Qualifications:

    • PhD in Animal Science or a closely related field (NQF Level 10)

    • Full-time, permanent academic staff member of the UFS Department of Animal Science

    • Current appointment as a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor
