Responsibilities:
Lead the Department of Animal Science strategically and academically
Foster academic excellence in teaching, learning, and research
Represent the department in faculty and university-wide management structures
Develop and implement academic and research strategies
Promote collaboration and maintain effective communication within and outside the department
Manage teaching quality, module content relevance, and student engagement
Ensure compliance with university policies and academic standards
Oversee staff development, performance management, and succession planning
Recruit high-quality scholars aligned with strategic goals
Drive departmental research culture and postgraduate supervision
Support staff in applying for NRF ratings and external research funding
Manage budgeting, financial planning, and compliance
Qualifications:
PhD in Animal Science or a closely related field (NQF Level 10)
Full-time, permanent academic staff member of the UFS Department of Animal Science
Current appointment as a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor
