    Job Overview:

    • Job Title: Lecturer: Civil Engineering

    Responsibilities:

    • Lecture and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students

    • Conduct and publish research in civil engineering disciplines

    • Supervise student research projects

    • Lead and participate in community engagement projects

    • Perform academic administration, leadership, and departmental organisation

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Requirements (one of the following paths):

    Option A:

    • Bachelor’s degree (BEng, BScEng, BEngTech Hons, or equivalent) in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 8)

    • Registered as a Professional Engineer or Technologist (PrEng/PrTechEng) with ECSA

    • Proof of progress toward a Master’s degree

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching or industry

    Option B:

    • Master’s degree (MEng, MScEng, MTech, or equivalent) in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 9)

    • Candidate registration with ECSA, with proof of submitted application for PrEng/PrTechEng under final review

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in teaching or industry

    Required Technical Proficiency in One or Both Specialisations:

    Geotechnical Engineering:

    • Site investigations, foundation design, retaining structures, slope stability

    • Geotechnical software: GEO5 Suite, PLAXIS, Slide, gINT, DeepEX

    • Familiarity with geotechnical design codes: SANS 10400, SANS 10161, SANS 2001-CM2, and others

    Transportation Engineering:

    • Transportation planning, pavement design, traffic engineering, modelling

    • Design and construction of pavements and road infrastructure

    • Software: Civil Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, PTV Visum, Rubicon Toolbox

    • Design codes: SANS 1200 Series, COTO 2020, TRH Manuals, UTG Guidelines

    Desired Qualifications and Experience:

    • Master’s degree + PrEng/PrTechEng registration (if holding NQF 8 qualification)

    • Progress toward a PhD in Civil Engineering (if already holding Master’s)

    • Experience across the full civil engineering project lifecycle

    • Track record in research outputs

    • Active in professional community and consultancy projects

    Salary:
    R777 297 per annum (Total Cost to Company)
    (Salary determined in line with CUT’s internal parity model)
