Job Overview
The Central University of Technology (CUT) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Lecturer: Health Sciences to join the Department of Health Sciences on its Bloemfontein Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing academic material, lecturing in allocated subject areas, conducting impactful research, supervising postgraduate students, and participating in community-based initiatives that support the University’s academic mission.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Develop and deliver academic material for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Lecture and assess students in allocated Health Sciences subjects.
- Conduct research and contribute to scholarly publications.
- Supervise postgraduate students and support research development.
- Evaluate student performance and provide academic guidance.
- Perform departmental administrative duties.
- Assist with the organisation and management of academic programmes.
- Participate in community engagement and outreach projects.

Subject Specialisation
Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following fields:
- Bioinformatics
- Molecular Biology
- Cellular Biology
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- A relevant Doctorate (PhD/DTech/NQF Level 10 or equivalent) in Bioinformatics or a closely related discipline, such as:
- Computational Biology
- Biostatistics
- Computer Science (Life Sciences applications)
- Molecular Biology with a strong computational focus
- At least 4 years’ teaching or lecturing experience in the relevant subject field.
- Demonstrated research output in line with CUT promotion requirements.
- Experience supervising postgraduate students.
- Participation in national and international academic conferences.
- Experience in community engagement related to teaching, learning, research, or innovation.
Research and Academic Requirements
Candidates should demonstrate:
- A minimum of 1.5 accredited research outputs, including journal articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, patents, or equivalent scholarly work.
- Successful supervision of:
- Two completed Master’s students as co-supervisor; or
- One completed Master’s student as main supervisor.
- At least four conference presentations, including one international presentation.
- Active involvement in community-based academic projects.
