Job Purpose
To provide psychological counselling and mental health support to students, focusing on personal, social, emotional, and career development. The role also contributes to student wellness programmes and developmental initiatives at the university.
Key Responsibilities
Counselling & Therapy
Provide psychotherapy and counselling for students.
Identify, diagnose, and treat psychological problems.
Refer students to other professionals when necessary.
Psychological Assessment
Conduct psychometric assessments.
Provide career counselling and guidance.
Perform psychological screening and first-level interventions.
Student Development
Design and present developmental workshops for students.
Support initiatives aimed at improving student well-being and performance.
Collaboration & Support
Liaise with faculties, student affairs, management, and support services.
Work with student representatives and campus structures.
Administration
Marketing of counselling services.
Office management and administrative duties.
Support the goals and objectives of Student Affairs.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s Degree in Counselling or Clinical Psychology (NQF Level 9).
Active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist.
At least 1 year experience working with students in higher education or young adults.
Recommended Experience
2 years counselling experience in higher education.
Experience with career counselling for young adults.
Experience with trauma counselling.
Ability to speak Sesotho and/or Zulu.
