Job Overview
The University of the Free State is looking for a Professional Nurse to provide professional clinical and primary healthcare services at its Health and Wellness Centre. The successful candidate will support students and the campus community through clinical care, HIV testing and counselling, health promotion, emergency response and preventative healthcare programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform professional clinical duties at the Primary Health Clinic.
- Provide HIV testing and counselling.
- Capture clinical notes on the electronic medical system.
- Conduct quality control of the clinic.
- Order and manage medication and medical equipment stock.
- Handle medical emergencies on campus.
- Assist with first aid services at campus sporting events.
- Organise and support health and HIV awareness campaigns.
- Implement healthcare prevention programmes and initiatives.
- Present health information sessions to the campus community.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with clinical duties at the Bloemfontein Campus when required.
- Travel independently between Bloemfontein and South Campus.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 or a three-year National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in general nursing, psychiatric nursing, midwifery and community nursing.
- A post-basic diploma/degree in Primary Healthcare.
- A valid dispensing certificate.
- A certificate in HIV testing and counselling.
- Completion of the NIMART (Nurse Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy) course.
- Knowledge of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
- Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience in a primary healthcare clinic environment.
- A valid driver’s licence.
