    The Motheo District Office is seeking a passionate and dedicated Peer Educator to join our team and make a difference within vulnerable communities. This role specifically focuses on providing support and educational services to LGBTQIA+, Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Transgender, and Sex Worker populations.

    The selected candidate will play a critical role in supporting these communities, particularly in HIV/AIDS education, testing, and health service access.

    Position Requirements

    • Education: Grade 12 or equivalent, as recognized by SAQA.
    • Knowledge and Skills:
      • In-depth understanding of HIV/AIDS and associated challenges faced by Key Populations.
      • Ability to foster a non-judgmental and supportive environment that encourages open discussions on health matters, particularly among vulnerable populations.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse groups, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, MSM, Transgender persons, and Sex Workers.
      • Advocacy skills for promoting health care access and a culture of regular health check-ups.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:

    1. Promote Access to Health Services
      • Support LGBTQIA+, MSM, Transgender, and Sex Workers in accessing health care services without fear of stigma or discrimination.
      • Encourage a commitment to maintaining a healthy approach toward lifestyle choices among Key Populations.
    2. Encourage Regular Health Check-Ups
      • Advocate for regular HIV testing within Key Populations, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention.
      • Actively promote HIV testing during clinic open days and community outreach services.
    3. Provide Comprehensive HIV Education
      • Offer information on various HIV prevention strategies, including condom use and adherence to treatment plans for HIV-positive individuals.
      • Educate community members on risky behaviors that may lead to the spread of HIV and STIs.
    4. Promote Safe Practices
      • Demonstrate the correct and consistent use of male and female condoms, including lubricants, to encourage safe practices among Key Populations.
    5. Community Engagement and Hot Spot Mapping
      • Identify and map out high-risk areas (hot spots) for LGBTQIA+, MSM, Transgender individuals, and Sex Workers vulnerable to HIV and STI infection.
      • Work collaboratively with local stakeholders to reduce the spread of infections within these communities.
