Job Overview
The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements. The role requires competency in routine and complex specimen collection procedures, patient counselling, and adherence to strict infection prevention and safety protocols. The Phlebotomist works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure patient comfort, accurate specimen handling, and timely processing of laboratory samples.
Key responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-test counselling, managing patient information and administrative tasks, maintaining a sterile working environment, and ensuring accurate recording of all utilised stock. The role supports high-quality patient care and contributes to the efficient operation of the clinical unit.
Main Purpose of Jobhea
To draw blood or other specimens from patients for testing purposes, ensuring all procedures comply with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine and complex blood/specimen collection procedures
Conduct pre- and post-test counselling with patients and family members
Identify, prevent, and report risks to ensure patient safety
Follow health and safety protocols to maintain a sterile work area
Perform administrative duties for accurate patient information and specimen processing
Ensure all utilised stock is accurately recorded and charged
Build and maintain collaborative relationships within the multi-disciplinary team
Required Education
Essential Education:
Registered/Enrolled Nurse OR
Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques
Required Experience
Essential Minimum Experience:
At least 1–2 years’ experience after nursing/phlebotomy qualification

Risk identification and reporting
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols
