Job Purpose:
The Pharmacist is responsible for providing full pharmaceutical care to patients by taking accountability for their medicine-related needs. This includes dispensing, counselling, supervising assistants, compounding medicines, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and promoting public health.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients’ medicine-related needs for indication, safety, and effectiveness.
- Dispense medicines and scheduled substances according to prescriptions.
- Sign off and check all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns.
- Advise patients on correct medicine usage and monitor compliance.
- Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy.
- Supervise compounding, preparation, packaging, and manufacturing of medicines.
- Manage medicine registration processes per Medicines Act & Pharmacy Act.
- Conduct pharmaceutical research and development where required.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles, medication records, and process medical aid claims.
- Authorize chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Maintain stock, facilitate bi-annual stocktakes, and ensure asset control.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem SOPs, Health & Safety rules, and personal appearance standards.
- Train and supervise staff, lead by example, and manage conflict effectively.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- BPharm or equivalent qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- 2–3 years pharmaceutical experience
- 2–3 years retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern acceptable)
- Computer literate – MS Office
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Retail/FMCG pharmacy experience
- Third additional language
- SAP and E-scripting experience
- Registered tutor
- Unisolv system experience

Special Conditions of Employment

- Willing to work retail hours
- Must be physically fit (standing for long periods)
