    Job Overview

    University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications for the position of Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Accountancy within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, School of Accountancy. This is a permanent academic appointment based at the Bloemfontein Campus.

    The role focuses on teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic leadership, contributing to the advancement of accountancy education aligned with professional standards and the evolving demands of the profession.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Teach, coordinate, and assess Accounting and Financial Accounting modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

    • Develop students’ digital acumen and graduate attributes

    • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation aligned with professional accountancy bodies such as SAICA

    • Advance pedagogical practices within the School of Accountancy

    • Conduct research and publish in accredited, high-quality journals

    • Present research at conferences, colloquia, workshops, and seminars

    • Build and maintain relationships with the academic research community and professional accountancy bodies

    • Perform academic and administrative duties within the School

    Additional Responsibilities (Senior Lecturer)

    • Provide academic leadership and oversee quality assurance processes

    • Supervise Honours, Master’s, and PhD students

    • Mentor junior academic staff and support their career development

    Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

    Lecturer

    • Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Accountancy or a related discipline
      OR

    • Chartered Accountant (SA) with an NQF Level 8 qualification in Accountancy or related discipline

    • Good academic record

    Senior Lecturer

    • PhD (NQF Level 10) in Accountancy or a related discipline
      OR

    • Chartered Accountant (SA) with a Master’s degree (NQF Level 9)

    • Proven experience in facilitating learning in the accountancy field

    • Demonstrated contributions to research and knowledge advancement

    • Record of high-quality publications in accountancy

    Recommended Skills and Experience

    Lecturer

    • Practical experience in the field of Accountancy

    • Recent lecturing experience at a higher education institution

    • Scholarly publication record

    • Membership of professional accountancy bodies

    Senior Lecturer

    • Strong leadership and management skills

    • Willingness to contribute to strategic initiatives of the School

    • Readiness to serve on the School of Accountancy management team

    • Membership of relevant professional accountancy bodies
